Vinnytsia Literary and Memorial Museum of M.M. Kotsyubynskyi

The exhibition hall of the Vinnytsia Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi Literary and Memorial Museum will host the presentation of an exhibition of illustrations by the prominent artist Olena Kulchytska for Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi's novella "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors".

Olena Lvivna Kulchytska is a well-known Ukrainian artist who, more than a century ago, burst like a whirlwind into the artistic life of Lviv, becoming the first woman to receive a formal art education in the Halychyna (Galicia) region. Olena Kulchytska is the author of over 4,000 artworks that have entered the golden fund of Ukrainian book illustration. The multifaceted nature of her talent is evident not only in graphics and painting but also in decorative arts and the illustration of printed publications.

In 1929, commissioned by the State Publishing House of Ukraine, Olena Lvivna created illustrations for Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi's novella "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". Later that same year, the writer's novella of the same name was published featuring the artist's illustrations.
The original works were transferred to the permanent collection of the Vinnytsia Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi Literary and Memorial Museum, 31 graphic pieces of which are presented at the exhibition.

We invite you to the opening of the exposition to see the artist's works in person.
The exhibition will be on display from July 24, 2024, to August 19, 2024.

The exhibition is organized as part of the events for the Year of Kotsiubynskyi (#2024YearOfKotsiubynskyi) and the Culture Strategy of the Vinnytsia Municipal Territorial Community, taking place within the framework of the #EU4Culture project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut Ukraine.
